Five Tips for Younger Looking Skin

06/27/2024

We know that beauty comes from inside out and the month of June I've dedicated to skin health. I've explored everything from sunscreens, to supplements, and foods that are best at keeping your radiant and glowing. You can catch the videos on my YouTube Skin Health playlist. This is the last topic in the skin health series.

Now let's chat about the five lifestyle hacks that will keep you looking young longer.

1. Ditch the Sugar and Alcohol--I'm combining sugar and alcohol because they both deplete our bodies of vital nutrients. Both of these age us quickly and can lead to increased acne, an increase in the appearance of wrinkles, saggy neck and chin, dark circles under the eyes, and they both slow the healing process. This may be hardest of all my lifestyle tips to put into practice because sugar lights up the brain like a drug making it very addictive. What can you do if you've already got a sweet tooth? Try using natural whole fruit if you need a sugary snack. When it comes to alcohol, try to sub your favorite cocktail for flavored mineral water with a twist of lime or frozen fruit.

2. Sleep More--Sleep is the washing machine for your brain. The brain doesn't have any other way to release toxins than sleep. While we sleep our human growth hormone does the job of repairing damaged skin cells. You've seen those dark circles under your eyes when you don't sleep, you've also seen the inflammation that results from lack of sleep. Aim for 7-9 hours a night if possible.

3. Stress Less--The primary stress hormone Cortisol causes more oil production in the skin which can lead to acne. Stress also causes us to have trouble sleeping. Any time we amp up the body, it's depleting vital nutrients that our skin needs to remain healthy. Take a brain break throughout your day. Get up from your electronic device, go for a walk, take three deep breaths. Relax your mind and body daily.

4. Exercise--It's so important because it's increasing blood circulation to our skin. Remember your skin is the largest organ of the body. The more circulation, the more elasticity, the more vital nutrients get to the skin cells for repair. Exercise also flushes out the toxins that lead to wrinkles and saggy skin. Get your sweat on 3-5 times a week for optimal health.

5. Drink More Water--As the largest organ of the body our skin requires a lot of water! Our bodies are actually made up of about 75% water. Staying hydrated means we're delivering those vital nutrients to where they need to go. More water means our skin maintains elasticity and texture. Aim for half your body weight in ounces every single day. If you're outside or traveling, drink more!

And there you have it! My top five tips for younger more radiant skin. Pick ONE from the list above and start implementing into your daily life for next 21 days. Once you've got that habit formed come back to the list and choose another tip for the next 21 days.

What I know for sure is that it's in the small seemingly insignificant daily choices where health happens. Need a more personalized approach, let's connect. Keep me updated on your progress and as always be well!
