Top Ten Foods for Skin Health

06/28/2024

Sagging, wrinkles, paper thin skin, spider veins, age spots....these all happen at varying degrees as we get older. Aging is not for the faint of heart! What if you could radically slow the signs of aging by the food that you eat?

We know that what we eat becomes the building blocks for our cells. Our food really does become us. Armed with that bit of information, we can make better choices giving us a chance for beautiful radiant skin.

Check out my top ten below!

1. Salmon-full of Omega-3 fatty acids which improves the resilience of your skin. Salmon is also a great source of protein--the building block of muscle and repair. Think of all the tiny muscles in your face! The fatty acid in salmon adds bounce and elasticity to your skin. Looking for a plant based Omega? I've got the perfect blend of Omegas 3, 5, 6, 7, & 9. This is the way they're found in nature. Check them out HERE.

2. Pumpkin Seeds- An excellent source of zinc, which aids in keeping your skin beautiful and healthy. Along with Vitamin C, these compounds can build new and healthy skin cells, as well as repair damaged skin.

3. Lemon- A great source of Vitamin C. We need Vitamin C for collagen production, which in turn keeps our body tissue firm and healthy. Try drinking warm or room temp lemon water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. It's a great way to fire up digestion and activate that collagen production. Use lemon not only in your drink but also directly on your skin to reduce acne and acne scars.

4. Green Tea- Has high amounts of antioxidants which help to protect the skin against harmful elements. Just by breathing we are creating oxidation within our bodies. We need ANTI-oxidants in order to combat the damage that's causing our skin to look dull and dry. You know what else is filled with antioxidants? Fruits and veggies are all excellent sources.

5. Honey- Has both internal and external uses: it can be applied to the skin for a rejuvenating and soothing effect, but it can also be used to boost internal health when consumed. It is well known that honey is full of different nutrients; in fact, it's one of the most nutrient-rich foods but that doesn't mean go hog wild with honey. It's a natural sweetener--use sparingly! People with eczema have found success using honey on the rashes to soothe the itch and calm the flare-ups.

6. Almonds- An abundance of vitamin E which protects the skin and helps to give it that radiant glow. It's another powerful antioxidant that also prevents aging. The protein and healthy dietary fat found in almonds boosts the resilience and texture of skin.

7. Olive Oil- Its benefits have been used for centuries as anti-inflammatory and soothing. You can make facial masks with olive oil as the main component. It's another food that has benefits internally when consumed and externally when applied directly to the skin. It's one of my main ingredients in my homemade beauty products.

8. Broccoli- Iron, Vitamin C, and other nutrients in broccoli help your skin remain soft and supple. Broccoli is one of the best green vegetables for skin health because of its high levels of Vitamin C and Vitamin E, that when combined, make for a nutrient boost. Other antioxidants also aid in protecting the skin from damage caused by dangerous chemicals.

9. Apple Cider Vinegar- When consumed in moderation or applied directly onto the skin, this anti-dioxide-rich substance helps our skin to regain its health. Apple Cider Vinegar also kills bacteria that may cause rashes or dry skin. People with acne have found success using apple cider vinegar as a facial wash, applying gently to the sores. It can also be easily added to water for a healthy drink. Yet another food that has benefits internally and externally.

10. Berries- Contain vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals rich in natural products that do wonders for the skin. Berries with an abundance of polyphenols (powerful active agents found in plants) are some of the most nutrient-dense fruits in the world, making them an obvious choice for skin health.

Looking for a way to get more berries--especially greens in your diet? Get the nutrients from 30 fruits and veggies HERE. A total game changer in over all health. So how did you do? Are you consuming any of these 10 on the regular? Reply and let me know!
